Implications of the Healthy People 2030 in the United States for the Health Plan 2030 in Korea: Focusing on children and adolescents

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the implications of Healthy People 2030 in the United States for health promotion policies for children and adolescents in Korea¡¯s Health Plan 2030.
Methods: This study was conducted using the interim reports, final reports, and related research results concerning the Healthy People 2030.
Data collection was obtained through international organizations¡¯ websites and national health promotion websites.
Results: Healthy People 2030 has the following features: 1) ¡®well-being¡¯ as the new vision; 2) an upstream approach to root causes; 3) an evidence-based approach; 4) multi-sectoral participation and cooperation.
Conclusion: As future tasks for Korea¡¯s Health Plan 2030, the following are proposed: 1) A blueprint for promoting health and well-being of children and adolescents should be presented; 2) Children and adolescents health promotion should be shifted from ¡®behavior?focused¡¯ to ¡®system?focused¡¯; 3) It is necessary to improve the objectives and indicator system for children and adolescents health promotion; 4) Educational indicators such as reading achievements should be included in health indicators; 5) Active participation and cooperation of multi-sectors are absolutely required; 6) A school should generate, educate and disseminate correct health and well-being information through strengthening its organizational health literacy.
